CLUB TRIAL @ BRECKENHILL 15 March 2026

Judges Report

Judge: Carrie Haveron

1st Lorraine Brownlie and Jules

2nd Janine Brownlees and Maverick

3rd Julia Patterson and Jasmine

4th Tania Carron and Forest

5th Jemma Elliott and Arlo

6th Joanne Holland and Seamus

The club trial was held in the bar lounge area of a large function room at Breckenhill. The section was sectioned off by a solid wooden bar and concrete wall with a door (included in the search) that leads into the log storage area and the boiler room. The entrance to the search area was a wall and in centre was an iron pillar and another wall all was included in the search.

On entry to the search area (from left) was a small swing door attached to a solid wooden bar that went the whole way up the room to another swing door that leads behind the bar the fronts where in play as where closed to stop teams going behind the bar. Their was a wicker chair with cushion beside the first swing door at corner of the bar and another one beside the second swing door at other end of bar in corner next to the back wall. On back wall was a door that lead into the log storage area and boiler it does have a draught that comes threw it. Going right was a small wooden stool beside a three seater fabric sofa then an uplift light was in corner then along the wall to right of search was a fabric sofa with cushions on it in front of it was a large wooden coffee table and in front of it was another three seater fabric sofa with a few cushions on it. The area was wide enough for teams to get between sofas and tables and bar freely with no obstructions. The end of search area to the right of the entrance from the centre H iron support beam was a long wooden bench and a small wooden stool all included in search.

The hide was on the bottom right corner (furthest from start) of the wooden coffee table.

Most teams got the hide. The teams who got the hide quickest had winded it from the start area and handlers recognised the dogs had got into a scent pool and allowed their dog to work it into source with a little difficulty of dogs working the sofa before turning to the table and some dogs near the end of trial got caught high on small wooden ledge of table before working down low to source. The teams that had most difficulty got caught up in the back area next to the wicker chair and door that leads to storage room where odour may have been getting caught due to doors opening and shutting between searches. The teams all

handled the search well and was very interesting to see how the odour was behaving as time went on the teams that let the dogs work odour from the start all behaved in very similar way and route to the source and the dogs that done a more handler lead search got caught up in a different area from odour.

Judges Report Bronze 2 Breckenhill 15 March 2026

Judge: Laura Kirk

1st Jillian Marshall and Edna

2nd Joanne Maybin and Cailie

3rd Carrie Haveron and Buzz

4th Joanne Holland and Seamus

5th Margaret Thompson and Alfie

The search area was a medium size used as a wedding ceremony/event area. Laid out with trestle tables, wooden chairs around the tables, a foosball table, single storage tub and 2 tables at the end of the room with the speaker system blocked off due to various wires. It was quite a busy area with more items than permanent structures bar the perimeter.

The first hide was located on the first set of tables and chairs as they entered the search area. This was at head height for most dogs taking part but also accessible to smaller dogs who used the chair or table legs to go up. Very interesting watching all the dogs figure this one out and made for some super sourcing behaviour.

The 2nd hide was underneath the back leg of the right hand table at the bottom end of the search area near the speakers. Most showed a lovely change of behaviour & ultimately indicated at source.

We had 5 teams in the placings all with scores in the 80s. Standard of searching & handling was high and a pleasure to observe. Well done everyone.

SILVER TRIAL BRECKENHILL 15 March 2026

The Silver search involved 3 odours - gun oil, clove and truffle oil. We had intended this trial to be outdoors but the weather forced a late change. So the search was then held in a single room of a converted barn. It included 3 closed doors (2 internal and one external), an unlit wood burner, lovely bare stone walls and a staircase. There were also various pieces of furniture. One hide was in a wall crevice under the staircase but the dogs had to negotiate a table and chair to get to it. The other hide was at the bottom of a bucket of fire wood.

We had a variety of experience within the 9 teams but happy to say all handled the search well - everyone found at least one hide with the firewood bucket being the problematic one. One dog (running second to last) tried to access the hide under the staircase from the actual stairs as the odour started to filter through but went on to solve the puzzle successfully.

It was lovely to judge such a high standard throughout the day and we hope everyone enjoyed it and took away some positive feedback. We loved watching you all!
