BRONZE REUSLTS TO FOLLOW

JUDGES REPORTS;

Platinum

This was held in a large indoor farm workshop, with the roller shutter doors open which added to the challenge with airflows. The barn was full of equipment and a trailer and fairly complex to search and lots of pockets of equipment and some in accessible areas to handlers.

The first hide was in a toolbox on the workbench to the left as you came in, the second in a cement mixer at the centre of the back wall and the third on a jumper sleeve again on the back wall, fairly close to the second hide. There were also a couple of distractions out, some duct tape stuck under a pallet and a clean nitrile glove in a tyre. There were also a couple of tennis balls that were already in the workshop in a box, they were visible the the handlers if they looked, but they did catch a few people out.

Most started on the left and worked around the barn, only the first three placed dogs found all three hides, which has a big impact on scores due to the way platinum is judged. All the dogs did some super work, some missed one of the hides just through handler position when searching the area (the middle section was very cluttered and could easily block of one of the two hides).

Almost every dog indicated, or showed string interest which handlers called, on the distraction of human odour on the glove or duct tape so something to work on at home!

Very high standard of dogs and great search patterns from all who easily covered the area.

Gold

This was a large farm storage barn, fairly new and uncluttered but containing 5 large pieces of tractor equipment. The door was shut when competitors entered so fully enclosed.

There were 3 hides out, one in a pipe on the floor to the right of the door, one on the tractor equipment in the last third of the area and one at the end by the back wall, again in a pipe, but not easily accessible unless you worked all the way round a tight squeeze between the wall and equipment, or the dog worked away from you happily as the handlers could not access this area from the front. A very high standard of dogs and handlers, all with good search patterns, only one dog failed to find all three and that was just sheer bad luck as they didn't realise they skipped passed the one area where it was having searched everything else thoroughly! Scores were tight which reflects the standard we had in the class. Search patterns varied from the left or right side but all were well thought out and a pleasure to watch
