The search area was in large function room of which an ‘l’ shaped area was used. The smaller part of the room was made of a low wall with windows and doors plus a stone wall with tables and a few other items within the area.

Leaving the small area, there was an arch leading into a larger hall with two busy corner areas (with chairs, work benches, arrow holders) to the left and right as the handler entered. At the back of the hall there were target boards on easels, plus the surrounding walls were ‘dressed’ with voile pooled curtains.

Both hides were in the large area at opposite ends to each other, one immediately after a busy area on the left under a pooled voile curtain. The second hide was at the other end of the hall under a brick.

Both hides were accessible to all dogs. Quite a few teams worked dogs on lead for the initial part of the search and then free searched the larger area.

Most teams found both hides but a few missed the hide under the pooled curtain. The teams that missed it came out of the busy area and tasked the dog to the wall but the dogs missed the first 6-8ft of the wall thus missing the hide.

Overall there was great searching by all teams and the dogs were confident and happy. Special thanks to Nicky Rodgers for timing each team.

The search area was an upstairs room. There was a glass door to the stairs at one end of the area and several recessed windows at floor level. All were double glazed and locked. A large corner was blocked off using tables and chairs as there was a large mass of foliage from a previous crafting event.

Within the search area there were assorted sizes of tables and numerous chairs, a large piece of audio equipment, a screen and stand which were on their side and some electric heaters (all unplugged).

1 team worked on kong, 5 on gun oil and 6 on clove.

The hide was placed under the foot of an unplugged electric radiator in the right corner of the room at entry. Most of the teams found the hide, with those not finding it due to a variety of reasons including not encouraging the dog into the corners of the room, to a lack of confidence in the dogs to stay with the odour with interest being then missed by the handler. The odour proved difficult to pinpoint for some more novice teams due to the slats in the radiator but when encouraged by their handler the majority were able to pinpoint effectively.

All teams displayed some aspect of confidence and joy when searching and those that started their search on the right usually found the odour quickly.
