Our evening Silver trial was hosted at Chimney Corner Football Club, judged by Elizabeth Worley and Janine Brownlees and included 10 competitors.

We had 3 odours involved in the trial - gun oil, clove and truffle oil.

The search area consisted of a small stadium seating area of approximately 120 seats and included some perimeter fencing and the front of two metal storage containers. It was a calm, fairly warm evening.

One hide was behind a seat on the back row but the dogs couldn't get to source so had to 'decide' where to indicate. The second hide was in a crate on the ground between the seats and container fronts, it was accessible.

All but two dogs found the crate hide with several struggling with the seat, a few didn't pick odour up at all in the area but when they did most coped well and took time to carefully indicate as close as possible.

Clove was the most popular odour choice of the night with truffle oil throwing in a few appearances and it proved the trickiest to source!

Many competitors were new to this level and had never searched a seating arena before so we did a few teams get a bit 'traffic jammed' in rows but I believe everyone enjoyed themselves and the learning opportunity it provided.

The overall results show a good standard of new and established teams - the take home messages for the teams included -

Give your dog space to work, keep polishing indication skills and don't skimp on rewarding your dog!
